これは、イランのサファヴィー朝時代に製作された『王書』の細密画写本を原寸で複製したもので、優美な書体と美しいミニアチュールを後世に伝える貴重な図書です。『王書』は、ペルシア文学史上の著名な詩人であるフィルドゥスィー（934頃～1025頃）によって集大成された長編叙情詩で、イラン民族の神話や歴史を伝えています。

This book reproduces the elegant calligraphy and luxurious miniatures of the sixteenth-century Shahnameh (“Book of Kings”) known as the Houghton Shahnameh in their actual size. The Shahnameh compiled by the Persian epic poet Firdowsi (ca. 934-ca. 1025) consists of verses based on the myths and the history of Persian kings.
