卵形の胴に長い頸、左右に長い把手（耳）を持つ形は、古代ギリシアのアンフォラという壺を思わせ、西方から伝えられた形状と考えられています。西方的な器形がそのまま模倣されるのではなく、中国で伝統的に好まれていた龍のデザインが組み合わされています。ユーラシア大陸の幅広い交流がうかがわれると同時に、美しいフォルムに唐代の美意識も感じられます。

This oval-shaped vase with two handles is reminiscent of ancient Greek amphorae. While the silhouette is of the Western origin, the dragon-shaped handles are of the Eastern inspiration, which bespeaks cultural exchange across the EurAsian continent. Beautiful vases like this, reflecting Tang aesthetic, were specially made for ritual purposes.
